About the Project
Sunnyside Nodes is a virtual town where each institution—a hospital, police department, school, or skate park—hosts a single artistic work. This space serves as both an architectural metaphor and a unique venue to engage with different artistic perspectives.
Our project is rooted in the idea of the "archaic smile"—the serene, enigmatic expression found in ancient Greek sculpture. We see the archaic smile as the reverse of the "uncanny valley," aiming for human resonance rather than a perfect copy of reality.
In the same way, we explore how Artificial Intelligence in art can create synthetic gestures that, while artificial, resonate deeply with an audience.
